Getting eight hours sleep a night key to staying slim
Getting eight hours sleep a night is the key to staying slim, scientists have claimed.
New research has showed that people who slept for less than six hours a night, or more than nine, put on more weight than those who managed seven or eight hours every night.
Scientists found that people who didn’t sleep for long enough gained nearly 4.4lbs (2kg) compared to those who slept for the suggested number of hours.
Those who slept for too long found their weight increase by 3.4lb (1.58kg) more than those who had the recommended number of hours over a six year period.
People who were asleep for less time were 27% more likely to become obese.
Scientists explained the results saying the amount of sleep a person has affects their hormone levels – especially hormones which control appetite and feeling full after a meal.
