Bad News For Bacon Lovers[Consumer Reports] The smell of sizzling bacon suddenly doesn't seem so appealing. In a new analysis of several hundred pork samples from across the country,Consumer Reportsfound that more than half the samples contained bacteria that could cause illness in human diners. The bacteria in question,Yersinia enterocolitica, infects an estimated 10,000 Americans each year, with symptoms that include diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever. Some pork samples also contained drug-resistant bacteria, which could cause tough-to-treat human illness.
