Figure Skating to the "Yuri On Ice" theme - Miu Suzaki and Ryuichi Kihara | Music Monday
This Olympic Figure Skater Just Performed to Game of Thrones Music—in a Jaime Lannister Costume
German figure skater Paul Fentz was dressed for war at the men’s Olympic free skate competition at the PyeongChang Winter Games on Saturday (local time).
The 25-year-old, who has been figure skating since the age of four, channeledGame of Thrones' Jaime Lannister for his final performance at the 2019 Olympics by donning a suit of golden battle armor for his costume. In fact, Fentz was so dedicated to the character that he wore a red sleeve to symbolize the iconic moment when the Lannister’s hand gets cut off in season 3.
“I am trying to [represent him] correctly on the ice because at the beginning he is a bad guy and the music is really dark and everything, but at the end [he] gets glory,” Fentz told ELLE.com, just minutes after he finished competing. “I want to just be happy and take…the throne.”
Fentz said he finds the HBO show's music “very powerful.” He opted for the season 7 soundtrack, because “it [has more] glory,” he said. “[It’s] not so dark and grim; it [has] more happiness and glory and [themes] of taking the throne, to me.”
AlthoughGoTis not his favorite TV show (gasp!), he wanted his performance to speak to its millions of die-hard fans. "The whole world lovesGame of Thrones," he said.
